The fine print, ours
Privacy policy
This is short on purpose. We read other people’s fine print for a living, so ours should be readable too.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you ask for the Fine Print Checklist or join the newsletter.
- Your first name, only if a form asks for it and you type it in. It is optional.
- Email activity our email provider records automatically: that a message was delivered, opened, or a link in it was clicked, plus the date and the IP address when you confirmed your subscription. We keep that confirmation record as proof that you asked to be on the list.
We do not run analytics scripts, advertising pixels or tracking cookies on this website. The site itself is static pages hosted on Render, which, like any web host, keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security and operations.
Why we collect it
- To send you the Fine Print Checklist after you confirm your address (double opt-in).
- To send the weekly Fine Print Eagle email: one money rule, the numbers behind it, one thing to do. Some issues include a clearly separated, labeled promotion for a sponsor or for the writer’s own business. You can skip those; the rest is education.
- To see which topics people read, so we write about the things that matter.
Who handles it
Signups and emails run through Kit (Kit.com, formerly ConvertKit), our email service provider. Kit stores your address on our behalf and processes it under its own privacy policy. Our signup form posts your address directly to Kit; we do not keep a separate copy.
What we never do
- We never sell, rent or trade your email address or name.
- We never share your address with sponsors. A sponsor sees how many people clicked, not who.
- We never send text messages or make calls. We do not ask for your phone number.
How to unsubscribe or delete your data
Every email has an unsubscribe link in the footer. One click, no login, no questions. If you want your record deleted entirely rather than just unsubscribed, email eagle@fineprinteagle.com from the address in question and we will remove it from Kit within 10 business days.
Cookies and embedded videos
This website sets no cookies of its own. The home page embeds a YouTube video using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube and Google may still set cookies or collect data once you press play, under Google’s privacy policy. If you would rather not, watch on YouTube directly or skip the video.
Links to other sites
We link to YouTube, Kit and, in the newsletter, to government and news sources. Their policies apply on their pages, not ours.
Children
Fine Print Eagle is for adults managing their own money. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will remove the address.
California and “Do Not Track”
If you live in California, you may ask what personal information we hold about you and request its deletion; the answer will be your email address, possibly a first name, and the email activity described above. Email eagle@fineprinteagle.com. Our site does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals because it does not track you in the first place.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes here with a new effective date. If the change affects how we use your address, we will say so in the newsletter.
